Collierville: The town’s public library has begun charging non-residents to use their library, the last city in Shelby County to do so. DeSoto County: A report from Saturday’s Praisefest. Southaven is considering amending local sign ordinances to make all signs include English translation. The new Mid-South Fair kicks off this Friday! Hernando homeowners are angry with repeated flooding. More on the teen-directed anti-loitering law in Southaven. The Regional Utility Authority is able to leverage $10 million local dollars into $30 million worth of local projects. Financial: Mortgage numbers are still down, but the $8000 first-time home buyer’s tax credit is helping. Thirty-six thousand in TN have applied for it. World Wide Staging Day Saturday was a day to highlight the home sale staging professionals and their work. Millington: The first city-run Goat Days festival this past weekend was a modest success. |

LeMoyne-Owen College: They are seeing the same trend as other secondary schools in the area: enrollment was up this year, by a huge amount. University of Memphis: Don’t be surprised with a five percent tuition increase next year. Broad Avenue Art Walk: Scheduled for October 2, will be a mix of food and drink specials from Broad Avenue restaurants and bars, and lots of music, and even more art. Business: Diamond International has taken over the old showroom for Chuck Hutton Chevrolet. Blight: Empty, overgrown lots can be breeding grounds for crime. Arkansas: The state’s jobless rate fell to 7.1%. Endless rains are hurting the state’s cotton harvest. As the date for rollout of the new State lottery nears, vendors are getting training and officials are worried the heavy rains may slow down installation of lottery equipment in stores. And, the State Supreme Court and Appeals Court are moving to electronic publishing.
Overton Square: The developers who hope to build a grocery store and other stores on the Square unveiled preliminary proposals and were met with skepticism still. Mississippi: A positive look at how the casino industry in Tunica is handling the recession, from the Commercial Appeal. The NAACP is concerned over the State Highway Patrol’s new promotions system. Governor Haley Barbour talks up the state’s trade schools. Oxford declines to extend their alcohol sales hours. Lee’s Summit Park in Hernando will get a walking trail expansion. Hearing will begin this week on next year’s State budget. The State Ethics Commission is looking to improve public records laws. |
