Westside Middle School to Host State and Federal Education Officials at Community Forum

Media invited to join Community Forum at Westside Middle School to discuss how we transform persistently low-performing schools

*Memphis, TN, April 11, 2012 – *Westside Middle School, an Achievement School District school starting in August, is currently performing in the bottom 5 percent of schools in the state. Local, state and federal officials are coming together to discuss the transformation process that will ensure Westside will perform among the top 25 percent of schools in the state within 5 years.

Achievement School District Superintendent Chris Barbic will be joined by local, state and federal education officials at a *10:30a-11:30a community event at Westside Middle School, 3389 Dawn Drive, Memphis, TN 38127 on Thursday, April 12th*.

Westside Middle School will host the event sponsored by the White House initiative, Together for Tomorrow, which aims to change the relationship between schools and the community. MCS Superintendent, Kriner Cash, Achievement School District Superintendent, Chris Barbic, U.S. Representative, Steve Cohen, and Senior Advisor for Nonprofit Partnerships for the U.S. Department of Education, Michael Robbins are among the expected guests.

Members of the press will have the opportunity to ask questions.
