Tea Party Finally Supports a Liberal Democrat
By: Ed Holliday

Elections have consequences and sometimes they create incredible irony. One ironic result from the 2010 mid-term elections is that many tea partiers have finally found a position where they support a left-wing democrat named Nancy Pelosi. Yes, it is true, Pelosi wants to be the minority leader in the house. Wow, the tea party knocks her out of her speaker’s chair by flipping more than sixty house seats and now she wants to lead the dazed and demoralized house democrats. Now many in the tea party movement are actually backing this liberal from San Francisco to lead the house democrats. Why? Because if Pelosi’s leadership aided Republicans in flipping 60-plus seats in 2010, just think how many more that she might help deliver in 2012!

As President Obama called it, the “shellacking” that his party took in the mid-term elections was historic. More seats flipped to the republican side than anytime in most voters’ lives. In fact, the Republican Party has not had this many house seats since 1946. Even stellar party chairmen like House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (MO), who was first elected in 1976, and House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt (SC), first elected in 1983 were vanquished in the tea party inspired charge to “Remember in November.”

The cry to remove Nancy Pelosi from being the speaker of the house was so shrill that the numbers of Blue Dog Democrats were cut in half. All year tea party after tea party has tied democrats in congress to Pelosi’s leadership. During the election season most democrats ran away from promoting the party’s achievements of passing healthcare, cap and trade legislation, removing the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy, and financial reform that was suppose to reign in Wall Street but actually hit the small town banks with more paperwork than a common citizen can wheelbarrow through a bank’s lobby. The final straw for the tea party was recognizing that it mattered not how each individual member of Congress voted; rather, what mattered most was the speaker’s decision about what bills she was going to allow to be voted on! Therefore, Nancy Pelosi became the albatross around the necks of democratic members of congress around the entire country!

And in direct defiance of the liberals allegations of racism within the tea party movement was the tea party backed elections of African-Americans Tim Scott of South Carolina and Allen West in Florida to the U.S. House of Representatives. It’s hard to accuse a movement of racism when it helped in supporting 15 black conservatives in their general election bids for congress. One of the best undercurrents of the tea party movement is the platform it provides for conservative African-Americans to speak and encourage other blacks to think out of the box that the Democratic Party and liberals have placed them in for over a generation now. No matter how some people want everything to remain the same, our country is changing and this can be seen through the tea party and the new conservative movement which now includes blacks, Latinos, and Indian Americans in congress and governorships across the nation.

In another twist of fate the hard nosed political tactics (and some possibly illegal) of Senator Harry Reid from Nevada have kept him in power. This election was a bitter disappointment to tea partiers everywhere as Sharon Angle, Reid’s opponent, went down in defeat. But making lemonade from lemons tells us something far better than we might have imagined. In fact, the more that I think of it the more I like the thought that Harry Reid will be around as the face of the democrats in the senate. When the majority of Americans see Harry Reid they think about the botched politics during the hustling for healthcare votes that produced the “Cornhusker Kickback” and the “Louisiana Purchase.” You see, there was a three-headed beast called Pelosi, Reid, and Obama who just days after Halloween scared many independents and Republicans into the voting booths in 2010. What better way to approach the journey toward the 2012 elections than with this same three-headed far-left liberal beast that is proven to provid such good results for conservatives in 2010. The republicans may be thanking all the liberal democrats who vote to retain Pelosi as their leader, because she and Reid will continue to be the face of democratic leadership. All the Democratic leadership will continue to sing the praises of their ‘signature” healthcare law even as premiums skyrocket and mandated Medicare cuts happen in the next two years. Pelosi, Reid, and Obama could very well be the republican’s gift that keeps on giving—more house seats in 2012 along with the senate and the White House!
