NASHVILLE - Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey made an impressive entrance
into the Governor’s race with an eye-popping $1.3 million fundraising
month, demonstrating his campaign has hit the ground running at full
speed.
While his three opponents have been raising money for six months,
Ramsey has only been able to seek campaign contributions since June 1
thanks to Tennessee’s outdated campaign finance regulations. Ramsey’s
fundraising efforts did not kick into high gear until June 18 when the
legislative session ended - with the vast majority of his
contributions coming in the last 13 days of the month.
Despite this handicap, Ramsey’s fundraising total appears to surpass
the six-month totals of Bill Gibbons and Zach Wamp and is at a faster
pace than that of Bill Haslam. Press reports peg Wamp’s and Gibbons’
total fundraising at roughly $1.2 million and $500,000 and indicate
that Haslam has raised about $141,000 per week while Ramsey is raising
$325,000 per week.
“I know what it’s like to start from the ground up in business, in
government, and in campaigns,” Ramsey said. “I don’t mind that other
folks inherited advantages in this campaign that I can’t control - I’m
going to earn it every step of the way.”
Ramsey said his fundraising success comes from the fact that
Tennesseans are looking for a conservative Governor who can get things
done to help Tennessee’s economy. “I will be ready to be effective as
Governor on my very first day,” Ramsey said. “I am grateful for all
the folks across the state who believe in this campaign enough to get
on board early. We’ve got the momentum. We’re going to grow our team
and win this race.”
