Tennessee Right to Life Responds to Claim Against Memphis Planned Parenthood Abortion
Facility
Tax-Funded Agency Caught Circumventing State Laws on Suspected Sex Abuse of Minors,
Parental Consent on Abortion
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOTE: The president of Tennessee Right to Life, Brian Harris, will be in Memphis
this evening at a Shelby County Right to Life chapter meeting. Mr. Harris will
be available to the press for comments. Please contact at 615.347.4616.
(Nashville) Tennessee Right to Life issued a short statement today regarding
allegations
that the Memphis affiliate of abortion promoter Planned Parenthood was caught
attempting
to circumvent state laws on the reporting of sexual abuse of minors (TCA 37-1-605),
as well as the state’s parental consent statute (TCA 37-10-303). The statement
provided by Brian Harris, president of the organization, follows:
“Tennessee Right to Life respectfully calls upon public authorities to initiate
a full investigation of the claims brought against the Planned Parenthood affiliate
in Memphis. We join with many Tennesseans in expressing profound concern at what
appears to be efforts to circumvent state laws regarding the care of minor children
against sexual predators and the protection of parental rights regarding abortion
decisions in our state. We strongly urge our public officials at the local, state
and federal levels to determine how widespread these violations may be and to take
appropriate actions which protect our state’s most vulnerable children, women and
families.”
