“No One Should Have Been Surprised”

02.28.06

As it did after the attacks on 9/11, Popular Mechanics is once again looking at evidence and debunking myths, this time combating the false information spread during Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

For example, this is rather startling:

[T]he response to Hurricane Katrina was by far the largest–and fastest-rescue effort in U.S. history.

The 9/11 article (March 2005) is here.

Political Trivia

02.27.06

Here’s one to kickstart the week for you Google monkeys / online political junkies.

Trivia question:

Which local candidate has called Rep. Tre Hargett a “gut-less [sic] coward,” referred to Senate candidate Terry Roland as “a watered down candidate,” asked his potential contributors to “get off [their] lazy butt[s]” and vows to vote for legislation that will allow the dead to “pursue the[ir] offending… perpetrators”?

Extra credit if you can also call up the two platform planks on his campaign website that have recently been removed or rewritten.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your (search) engines!

Ports Pundits

I’m a guest of the Pundit Roundtable today at Willisms.com, where I’ve written more about the port deal mentioned briefly here a few days ago. See what two other featured guests and I have to say about the deal and leave a comment if you agree or disagree.

The Pundit Roundtable is a weekly feature at Willisms.com; you can catch it every Sunday afternoon, in lieu of watching the usual talking heads at Meet the Press, Face the Nation or This Week with George Snuffalupogous.
